FCC Announces Special Daylight Savings Operating Conditions for AM Stations During March 2008 Print E-mail
Wednesday, 03/05/2008
On February 29, the FCC released a Public Notice alerting AM radio stations of the upcoming commencement Daylight Saving Time, and provided directions for Presunrise and Postsunset Operations during the month of March. The FCC’s Media Bureau reminded AM stations that Daylight Saving Time (DST) will commence on March 9, 2008 at 2:00 A.M.  From March 9 through March 31, licensees of AM radio stations located in communities which operate on DST should use April DST “Advanced” powers and time periods.  This effects those AM stations which currently operate with Presunrise Service Authorizations (“PSRAs”) and Postsunset Service Authorizations (“PSSAs”).  The March adjustment is a result of the US Energy Policy Act of 2005, which shifted forward the commencement date of DST.If your station becomes the subject of interference caused by another station’s PSRA or PSSA operations, you should contact either communications counsel or Charles Miller, Susan Crawford, or Son Nguyen of the FCC’s Audio Division at (202) 418-2700.If you have any questions, please contact any of the members of our Communications Practice Section.Richard R.
